Community Involvement - The Ride 2018
On September 9th, 2018 my three co-captains and I led a team of 22 medical resident cyclists on a 117km bike ride through the Ottawa River parkway to Fitzroy Provincial park and back as part of The Ride, an annual charity event in support of the Ottawa Hospital.
Yes, you read that right, we cycled 117km!
While the morning was sunny but frigid, dropping down to 6 degrees, the sun came out full force for our second leg and it turned out to be a beautiful day for a bike ride.
The smiles in our post-race team photo are genuine - we were and remain overjoyed at the outpour of support from our community and sponsors. Our team, The Resident Riders fund-raised over $26,000 and The Ride raised an impressive $1,108,496.
The money raised will go directly to funding innovative research at The Ottawa Hospital - knowing that the dollars will stay in the community made this event even more special. It was an amazing experience to come together and celebrate the power we have as a community to better the lives of those around us.
On behalf of the team, I want to thank those who took the time to volunteer, cheer us on at the event and who made a donation. Without your support and generosity, the success of this event wouldn't have been possible. We look forward to seeing the impact our efforts have made in the upcoming year and believe it or not, we are already signed up for next year’s Ride!
If you are interested in getting involved or supporting in anyway next year please don't hesitate to reach out to a member of my team. We look forward to having you!
Until then, get on your bikes a few more times this season and explore the many beautiful bike paths Ottawa has to offer, I know I will!
