Submitted by Brandon Durant on December 7th, 2018Brandon Durant, far left, and Dr. Heather Smith (General Surgery Resident), centre, served as a co-captain’s for the Resident Riders at the 2018 RIDE, supporting the cause by cycling 117 KM's and raising $26,257. They were acknowledged for their contributions by the Ottawa Hospital’s President and CEO Jack Kitts, far right. Absent from the photo are co-captains Dr. Jerry Maniate and Dr. Simon Thebault.
Thanks to the generosity of our incredible donors and volunteers, The Resident Riders raised an impressive $26, 257 for the Ottawa Hospital Foundation as part of The Ride 2018 cycling fundraiser. Finishing in the top three for total dollars raised, earned the Resident Riders an award which was presented at the Ottawa Hospital's President’s Dinner on Oct 11, 2018.
The President's Dinner allowed for participants to hear firsthand the impact the funding would have on the Ottawa community. Stories of hope, compassion and inspiration were shared by members of the Ottawa Hospital medical team, including Dr. Rebecca Auer (Cancer Research) & Dr. Glen Goss (Medical Oncologist) and from their strong patients whose lives have been directly impacted.
We are beyond grateful to have been a part of this team and we are already planning for next year’s ride!
